Eixample is a district of Barcelona mostly built in the second part of 19th century. Eixample district is located very near to the old city of Barcelona. If we literally translate the name, it means “an extension”, which is because it really is an extension of the old city, but it isn’t actually in the area of it. It is a really interesting place for tourists, though it is perfect for the daily life. There is everything needed for an everyday life and it has a population of over 262 thousand people.
This district is usually divided in two parts – the left and the right, though officially there are five areas of the district. The right side is very famous for its beautiful old buildings. Here you will find an amazing architecture of world-wide famous architects. This is where some of the most well known works of Gaudi is. When the Eixample Barcelona houses were built it was thought to be the place for luxury houses, which is why there are so many fabulous patterns of architecture together in the same place. It really looks impressive!
There is the so called Golden Mile with the most modern and beautiful houses of Barcelona that nowadays houses simple shops and restaurants. You can take a wonderful tour of the most amazing landmarks nearby, including the Sagrada Familia, the city park of Citadel with its astonishing landmarks and the beach of La Barceloneta, which is also near.
The wide long streets are perfect for long, romantic walks, but if you want to experience the real nightlife of Barcelona, this is also a great place for that.
